Reading/Writing Bootcamp

Englist classes take place in an immersive English educational environment. During Reading/Writing Boot Camp, students engage in guided reading with Englist teachers, with a new novel chosen each session. Through further class discussions and writing exercises, students are encouraged to think critically to gain a deeper understanding of the text.

What is guided reading and sentence building?

There are two main areas of focus at the elementary level — guided reading and sentence building.

Guided reading is done as a group where students practice reading silently, out loud, and by listening to the teacher. As a class, they analyze texts to develop and enhance comprehension and vocabulary.

Sentence building is taught through grammar instruction and writing practice. Students are asked to employ grammar skills organically through their writing, and by rewriting sentences with errors, students are able to target mistakes and problems unique to their writing experience.

      Level: Fundamentals 1

The Haunted Library — by Dori Butler

When ghost boy Kaz’s haunt is torn down and he is separated from his ghost family, he meets a real girl named Claire, who lives above the town library with her parents and her grandmother. Claire has a special ability to see ghosts when other humans cannot and she and Kaz quickly form a friendship. The two join forces to solve the mystery of the ghost that’s haunting the library. Could it be one of Kaz’s lost family members?

      Level: Fundamentals 2

The Area 51 Files — by Julie Buxbaum

When Sky Patel-Baum is sent to live with her mysterious uncle, she didn’t imagine she’d end up here: Area 51. A top-secret military base with a bajillion rules and so classified not even the president knows its secrets.

Also, it turns out the place is full of aliens. Lots and lots of aliens. But they prefer to be called Break Throughs, thank you very much.

As Sky sets out to explore her extraordinary new home with her pizza-obsessed pet hedgehog Spike, she meets her otherworldly next-door neighbor Elvis and his fluffy pup, Pickles. But something mysterious is afoot in Area 51. Some of the Break Throughs have gone missing … at the exact same time Sky arrived.

      Level: Fundamentals 3

When You Trap a Tiger — by Tae Keller

Would you make a deal with a magical tiger? This uplifting story brings Korean folklore to life as a girl goes on a quest to unlock the power of stories and save her grandmother.

Some stories refuse to stay bottled up …

When Lily and her family move in with her sick grandmother, a magical tiger straight out of her halmoni’s Korean folktales arrives, prompting Lily to unravel a secret family history. Long, long ago, Halmoni stole something from the tigers. Now they want it back. And when one of the tigers approaches Lily with a deal–return what her grandmother stole in exchange for Halmoni’s health—Lily is tempted to agree. But deals with tigers are never what they seem! With the help of her sister and her new friend Ricky, Lily must find her voice … and the courage to face a tiger.

      Explore Taipei

During the Explore Taipei unit, teachers take students to different places for adventures, to explore nature, and to discover historical sites—all to better understand the culture and history of Taipei.

This week, students will visit the Discovery Center of Taipei, the National Museum of History, the Taipei Botanical Garden, as well as the Beitou Hot Spring Museum.

And last but not least, teachers will take students on a hike up Elephant Mountain in Xinyi District, allowing them to take in the breathtaking view of one of Taipei’s most famous landmarks—Taipei 101.

      Afternoon Session 2: January 29 – February 2

      Monday~Friday 13:00-16:00

      Foods Around the World

What better way to understand another culture than with your stomach?

In our Foods Around the World unit, students gain a fresh perspective of what’s on their plates. Students are encouraged to try different cuisines from around the globe and learn about other customs and traditions in the process.

On the last day of the course, students will have the opportunity to prepare dishes themselves to share with family and friends.

Our classes are all-English, all the time.

      Native English-speaking teachers

Our classes are all immersive English-learning environments because our teachers are native English speakers. This allows students to improve their language skills more fluidly and colloquially.

      Small class sizes

Through group discourse and interaction with their classmates, students are encouraged to speak up and voice their thoughts and opinions. This cultivates their logical thinking and social skills.

      Fostering critical thinking skills

Students are encouraged to express their ideas through question-and-answer sessions and think critically about their arguments. This helps them become independent thinkers and prepares students for more advanced levels of writing.

Englist teachers all speak English at a native level and possess a wealth of education experience. Through all-English instruction, our classes help beginner learners develop strong pronunciation, listening, and speaking skills. By organically building a wider range of vocabulary through daily conversation with teachers, students also develop solid foundations for more advanced English learning and communication.

Intermediate learners further improve their English abilities by learning from material that covers different subject matters, which then serve as topics of class discussion and writing assignments.

      在Englist上課時全程由外籍教師以英語授課,鍛鍊孩子的聽說讀寫能力,讓孩子全時間的沉浸在正規英語使用法的氛圍裡,平時養成固定閱讀英文書籍的習慣,這樣的方式,讓英語學習不在是只重視於字彙與文法上的知識傳授,而是真正有效率的讓學生親近英語,讓英文不只是學科,而是學習知識的工具,並了解語言溝通的重要性。
